1970

Started with Colonial Chevrolet with only $5 in my savings account.

Remained there for 20 years holding all sales and management positions.

1976

Promoted to President and Chief Executive Officer of Colonial Auto Group.

1980

Became a Partner at Colonial Auto Group with Josh Darden.

1983

Added a second dealership to the franchise. A Toyota-Volkswagen.

1985

Added a third dealership to the franchise, a Cadillac dealer.

1987

Added a fourth location to the franchise, a Subaru-Mitsubishi

1990

After 20 years at Colonial Auto Group, Josh Darden and I dissolved our partnership. During my career there, we had 8 franchises. I took over the Toyota-VW dealership.

1991

Added Infiniti to the franchise, wich no one wnated at the time.

1993

Bought Lexus of Virginia Beach, this at the time was the only Lexus dealer in the country losing money.

2002

Bought West Palm Hyundai in West Palm Beach, FL.

2004

Sold West Palm Hyundai.

2009

Opened Charles Barker Nissan in Norfolk, VA.

2010

Built and opened Charles Barker Pre-Owned Outlet on Virginia Beach, VA.
